Community Launch Summary
The Shako Mako – Iraqi American Association Community Launch marked the beginning of a meaningful journey to bring Iraqi Americans and friends of the community together through culture, connection, and shared purpose.
The Shako Mako team approached this event with enthusiasm, hope, and a deep love for the community. In the early stages of planning, the vision was simple: even if one person showed up, it would be a success. With that mindset, the team embraced flexibility, allowing the event to grow organically rather than relying on a rigid plan.
On the day of the launch, eight attendees joined, each one representing an important step toward building a strong and connected community. Among them was Taha, a university student who had been in contact with the team through Instagram while traveling from Oklahoma to attend. New to the area and studying at the University of Texas at Austin, he expressed a genuine desire to connect with his community. His presence, along with others who came out of curiosity and support, reflected the very purpose of Shako Mako.
The event began with an opening speech about the story behind the organization and its mission. This was followed by introductions of the team and an overview of current and future programs.
Attendees actively participated, asking questions, sharing ideas, and offering support for future initiatives. Their engagement and willingness to contribute marked them as the foundation of what will grow into a vibrant and supportive community.
The Shako Mako team is deeply grateful for everyone who attended and supported this first step. This launch was not just an event, it was the beginning of a community.
