Shako Mako – Tax Readiness Workshop Summary
Shako Mako – Iraqi American Association successfully hosted its Tax Readiness Workshop, providing Iraqi and Arab American families with clear, bilingual guidance to better navigate the U.S. tax system.
The workshop covered essential topics, including 2025 tax updates, required documents, available credits and deductions, and strategies to identify and avoid common tax scams. Led by Omega Tax Financial Services, facilitated by our Treasurer, Edward Maldonado, a Texas-licensed CPA, the session offered practical, easy-to-understand information tailored to the needs of the community.
Attendees actively engaged throughout the workshop, asking questions during the live Q&A and sharing their concerns and experiences. The session helped simplify complex tax concepts and gave participants the confidence to approach tax season with greater clarity.
As part of the initiative, attendees were also offered access to a discounted tax filing service, further supporting them beyond the workshop.
Through this event, Shako Mako continued its mission of empowering the community with practical knowledge, reducing stress around tax preparation, and making essential resources more accessible.
